How Far Apart Should LED Tri-proof Lights Be Installed in Retail Warehouses?

The mounting spacing of lights in retail warehouses directly affects the uniformity of illumination across storage zones. Many overseas buyers only focus on wattage when purchasing lighting fixtures and overlook installation distances, resulting in uneven bright and dark areas. Proper planning for LED tri-proof light placement is critical for successful warehouse lighting projects.

1. Refer to Basic Parameters to Set the Baseline Spacing

There is no universal fixed value for light spacing. The key factors include fixture wattage, mounting height and beam angle. Higher ceiling clearance allows a moderately wider spacing, while narrow-beam fixtures require reduced distances between units. For warehouses with a 3–4 meter ceiling height, standard-power fixtures typically adopt a baseline spacing ranging from 2.5 meters to 4 meters. You also need to account for rack arrangements. Aisles demand higher lux levels, so do not copy the spacing used above storage racks. Supplemental lighting with can be added for local brightening when necessary.

2. Align With Rack Layout to Avoid Shadowed Blind Zones

Multi-tier racks in storage areas easily block light and create dark spots. Avoid mounting fixtures directly over the top of racks; install lights along the direction of aisles as the preferred option. When rack height is close to the fixture suspension height, you must narrow the light spacing to prevent insufficient vertical illumination. If the warehouse stores various goods with variable stacking heights, leave room for adjustments in your lighting plan to stop large shadow areas forming after stock stacking.

3. Adjust the Lighting Plan According to Environmental Conditions

Dust and moisture gradually reduce light output over time, a factor frequently underestimated in overseas warehouse projects. Lights suffer faster lumen depreciation in high-dust warehouses, so build a safety margin when designing spacing. IP65 LED tri-proof light features robust sealed protection, maintaining stable performance in humid and dusty conditions without the need to drastically reduce spacing to compensate for environmental losses. Also check local lighting codes, as some regions enforce mandatory lux standards for warehouse aisles.

4. Verify With On-site Testing and Optimize the Final Plan

Spacing values calculated on drawings are only theoretical. After installation, carry out on-site measurements with a lux meter. If certain aisle sections lack brightness, reposition fixtures or slightly shorten the spacing. Keep lighting layout drawings on file after project acceptance to facilitate maintenance and fixture replacement later. Add emergency lighting points for warehouses with fire safety requirements to guarantee visible walkways during power outages.

I have handled countless warehouse projects over my years in foreign trade. Poorly designed mounting spacing often forces clients to buy extra lights and blow the budget. Calculate spacing in advance based on ceiling height and rack dimensions to achieve consistent, even lighting in one go. If you have retail warehouse projects, share your site floor plans, and we will calculate suitable light spacing and deliver a complete lighting layout proposal.
